Wyvern says goodbye to Mr. Russell……..

Headteacher, Andy Russell, leaves Wyvern today after almost six successful years in post. He says, ‘I’ve had a brilliant time here and now that we have had our best ever results and best ever inspection report it is the right time for me to move on to something different. I always wanted Wyvern to be the best school in Weston and I am leaving at a time when we do have the best measure of student progress [‘value added’] in the town. I will miss the students very much – they make me laugh every day and make me proud in what they achieve. I’ve worked in four schools and this is the best, most dedicated and hard working staff team I’ve known and I have every confidence for the future as Mrs. Mee leads the school towards September.’

…..and hello to Mrs. Mee:

Deputy Headteacher Mrs. Mee will be the interim Headteacher until the new Academy Principal starts in September. She will be supported by Deputy Headteacher Mr. Ryan and a strong leadership team.

Mrs. Mee said, ‘I am honoured to become interim Headteacher of Wyvern Community School and excited about leading the school through to Academy status in September. I recognise that this will be a period of significant change for everyone connected to the school but our values and focus on learning remain exactly the same.’

‘Everyone at Wyvern recognises Mr. Russell’s contribution to the school’s improvement. Wyvern is unrecognisable from six years ago thanks to his leadership. We wish every success in the future.’

The best school in Weston?

The Government has now released the latest 'contextual value added' [CVA] figures for schools. These give an indication of how much progress students make from when they start at secondary school to when they leave. Wyvern's figure of 1001.5 is the highest it has ever been and is the highest one in Weston super Mare.

Headteacher, Andy Russell said 'When I came here five years ago I said I wanted to make Wyvern the best school in Weston. Many people didn't believe that was possible. On this CVA measure, that vision has been fulfilled thanks to the hard work and dedication of the staff, students and parents.'
