Our values and ethos

One of the strengths of Wyvern Community School is the way we treat each student as an individual. Whilst we encourage all students to become confident and successful learners we do have systems in place to help those who find life in school difficult.

We celebrate success at every opportunity and we work hard to create a positive atmosphere where students and staff feel they are valued members of a team.

Ofsted [2008] said: ‘Students enjoy school; they feel safe, happy and well supported. Their attendance has improved significantly and their behaviour, which was good at the last inspection, continues to improve. Students are polite, cheerful and friendly; the school is a calm and pleasant place. Staff care for students very well.’

At Wyvern we have clear aims and positive values.

We aim ....

. to create a calm, purposeful, positive atmosphere for learning that gives students of all abilities the opportunity to achieve

. to help students appreciate their responsibility to the whole community

. to build both self-respect and respect for others

. to promote independence, initiative, endeavour and self-discipline

. to develop young people skilled for life in a modern world

We value ....

. commitment to learning

. aspiration and endeavour, working for the benefit of self and others

. individual and collective excellence

. the individual and the community as a whole

. a moral, responsible and considerate attitude to life.
