Inclusion
Wyvern is an Inclusive school. We believe that all students are entitled to equal educational opportunities and should be supported and encouraged to develop their individual potential to the maximum. All our students have the right to a broad and balanced curriculum that is relevant and appropriate to their needs and allows for progression. Learning at Wyvern is differentiated according to age, aptitude and individual need. We support all students in developing the qualities, competencies, attitudes and behaviours needed for full and effective membership of the community.
Wyvern offers specialist support for those students with additional or special needs which may be of a temporary or permanent nature, with the aim of fully integrating into mainstream classes and allowing access to the whole curriculum. The Inclusion Team supports students with a range of needs which can include Learning, Social, Emotional or Behavioural. The team consists of specially trained and experienced staff who work with students in the classroom or with a more individualised approach that allows for a fast and effective return to the learning environment. They also share their skills and expertise with teaching staff in order that all students can be supported in their learning by professionals who understand, and are able to respond to their individual needs.
OfSTED recognise that we are extremely effective in the way that we work with all external agencies to offer care, advice and guidance, and to promote the personal development of those who require additional support in school. These agencies include Education Psychology Service, Behaviour Support Service, Child & Adolescent Mental Health Service, Health & Social Care Services & Education Welfare. We have our own Parent Support Adviser who plays a crucial role in helping the school to work together with parents towards positive outcomes in terms of behaviour and attendance.
